For the past four years, the Friends of
Findley State Park have been raising funds by sponsoring
Root Beer Float Socials, the annual “Cruise-In to Summer”
Car Show and other various fundraiser's. Grants were
generously contributed by the LMRE (Lorain-Medina Rural
Electric) People Fund. Currently Engraved brick pavers are
being sold to add a walkway to the shelter. The 30’ X 76’
shelter will include an enclosed area to be used by the
Friends Group for future events. RCP Shelters of Stewart,
Florida provided the design and the complete list of
materials needed. Concrete work, by Denes Concrete of
Wellington was secured by Findley State Park and the
construction itself completed by ODNR and park staff. A
metal roof from Country Metals of Shiloh, Ohio will finish
the project.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Shelter House Project
took place on Saturday, July 3rd at the Findley State Park
Campground. Construction began shortly thereafter.
The Friends of Findley State Park have worked
long and hard to accomplish this enormous task. The size of
this group did not matter, the accomplishment does. There
are many groups that would have never taken on a project of
this nature. The Friends of Findley did and it is becoming
a reality.
